LEVEL SENSORS

ifm efector sensors are non-contact devices that have no moving parts that can break or stick. Our level sensors use proven capacitive sensing technology to detect the level of product. This technology allows the sensor to detect both conductive and nonconductive objects such as liquids, water, plastics, wood, glass and a variety of other materials.

ifm efector level sensors incorporate a patented “charge balance” circuit design that provides superior noise immunity. This technology enables the level sensors to perform reliably in high noise environments.

Continuous Level Sensor

Point Level Sensor

We offer two sensor solutions for level applications: continuous level sensors and point level sensors.

An ifm efector level switch contains four essential components: an electrode assembly, an oscillator circuit, and an output circuit.   An electrode assembly is designed so that an electrostatic field is formed between the active electrode and the earth electrode.  Any object entering this field will increase the capacitance. The increase in capacitance depends on the following factors:

  • The amount of target material in front of the active electrode
  • The dielectric constant of the material

When the increase in capacitance is large enough, an oscillation is set up. This oscillation is detected by the evaluation circuit, which then changes the state of the output circuit.

Continuous Level Sensor

LK series Leveltrak sensor replaces float switches
The LK Series Leveltrak sensor is a solid-state sensor that detects the level of fluids and features direct level indication and adjustable setpoints. The sensor’s probe is inserted directly into the fluid; sensor fields located down the length of the probe detect the fluid’s level.

Point Level Sensors

KI point level sensor with potentiometer adjustment
The KI Series level sensors feature easy setpoint adjustment and improved noise immunity. These sensors feature a 15-turn potentiometer to adjust the sensitivity of the switch.

KN level sensors for plastics industry
Level sensor detects low-dielectric, reduced-moisture materials in plastics processing applications. The sensor's 1-step "set and forget" pushbutton adjustment completely eliminates multiple sensitivity adjustments.

KNM point level sensor with pushbutton adjustment
The KNM flush level sensor is designed to sense difficult-to-detect solid materials like plastic regrind, powders and other dry product with low bulk densities. The KNM nonflush sensor detects the level of solid or liquid materials through a tank wall or sight glass.

LI overflow sensor with pushbutton adjustment
The LI overflow sensor protects against overflow and detects the high or low level of fluids in a tank or container. These sensors are resistant to aggressive oils and lubricants. The 16 mm diameter probe is available in various lengths.
KNQ point level sensor with pushbutton adjustment
The KNQ level sensor detects the level of liquids or solids in a non-metal sight glass or container. The low profile, rectangular switch mounts directly to a sight glass with a strap and mounting clip.
