SNAP Simple I/O

SNAP Simple I/O is the low-cost, high-quality I/O unit for simple monitoring, control, and data acquisition using a wired Ethernet network. SNAP Simple I/O is ideal for high-density commercial and industrial applications and for remote monitoring applications with high I/O point counts. If offers simple digital and serial capabilities, plus full analog features, all on the same 16-module rack.

As an independent I/O unit, SNAP Simple I/O can communicate via Modbus/TCP, the OptoOPCServer, and applications you develop using the free SNAP Ethernet I/O Driver Toolkit (for Microsoft Windows) or the IEEE 1394-based protocol (for Linux and other non-Windows operating systems). These communication methods are all fully documented.

For a complete control system, use SNAP Simple I/O units with a SNAP-LCE controller or with SNAP Ultimate I/O. These controllers run ioControl strategies that manage and control machines, equipment, sensors, and actuators--all the critical physical elements of your business--using SNAP Simple I/O units as the hands and fingers that do the work.

A SNAP Simple I/O unit consists of an I/O processor, which we call the brain, a mounting rack, and up to 16 analog, digital, and serial input/output (I/O) modules.

• The SNAP Simple I/O brain is the core component of the SNAP Simple I/O unit, providing I/O and communications processing.
• SNAP Simple I/O units use a SNAP-M64 mounting rack, which holds the brain and up to 16 analog, digital, and serial I/O modules in any position on the rack.
• A wide variety of SNAP I/O modules is available for use with SNAP Simple I/O. Digital functions include input latching, on/off status, and watchdog timer. Analog functions include thermocouple linearization (32-bit floating point for linearized values), minimum/maximum values, offset and gain, scaling, time-proportional output, filter weight, output clamping, and watchdog timer. Serial functions include the ability to both send and receive ASCII strings to and from attached serial devices, such as chart recorders and barcode readers.
