SNAP I/O - High-Density Digital Modules

High-Density Digital Modules

SNAP high-density digital (HDD) modules contain 32 points of digital input or 32 points of digital output. Compatible with SNAP Ethernet systems (SNAP Ultimate, SNAP Ethernet, and SNAP Simple I/O), SNAP HDD modules are ideal for applications with large point counts or limited space.

Use SNAP high-density digital modules mixed on the same rack with analog, serial, and standard digital modules, or fill the rack with up to 512 digital points.

NOTE: SNAP HDD modules differ from standard SNAP digital modules. Contact our Engineering staff before buying.

The SNAP-IDC-32 digital input module can sense on/off status for 10-32 VDC inputs from sources such as proximity switches, limit switches, and push buttons. Latching and counting are automatic.

High-density digital output modules can switch on and off 5-60 VDC loads, either sourcing (SNAP-ODC-32-SRC) or sinking (SNAP-ODC-32-SNK).

Accessories:

  • For wiring to each HDD module, use a SNAP-HD-CBF6 wiring harness.
  • For diagnostics and commissioning, use an OptoTerminal-G20.

Comparison Chart: SNAP High-Density and Standard Digital Modules

Counting on digital input modules Counting occurs on the module; no configuration is required.*
Counting is available with any compatible brain, including analog/simple digital brains (SNAP-UP1-M64 and SNAP-ENET-S64). Counting speed: up to 50 Hz @ 50% duty cycle
High-speed counting occurs on the SNAP brain and can be configured for any point. (High-speed counting is not available on digital-only or analog/simple digital brains.)
Counting speed varies based on the SNAP brain and the speed of the module. Example: B3000 serial brain with SNAP-IDC5-FAST: up to 20 KHz
SNAP Ethernet-based brain with SNAP-IDC5-FAST: up to 10 KHz
Individual point names No. ioControl strategy commands generally use bitmasks to read or write to points on a high-density digital module. Yes. ioControl strategy commands refer to each digital point on a module by name.
Placement on rack Place anywhere on analog/digital racks, even in slots marked "Analog Only." Do not use on digital-only racks. Place in first eight slots only on analog/digital racks. Place anywhere on digital-only racks.

* Notes on HDD module counting: The module uses a 16-bit counter, but the brain used with the module accumulates counts to 32 bits by periodically getting and clearing the module's counts and adding to current values. Update time varies based on number of modules and Ethernet communication demands.

SNAP DNP3 I/O

Opto 22 SNAP-DNP-ASDS brainSNAP DNP I/O from Opto 22 is a DNP slave hardware device for use with DNP3-based SCADA systems. A low-cost alternative to remote telemetry units (RTUs), SNAP DNP I/O systems provide a non-proprietary, standards-based way to bring critical utility assets under the scope of a DNP3 SCADA network.

SNAP DNP I/O-based systems use a broad array of optically isolated analog and digital SNAP I/O modules to connect to power transformers, motor operators, circuit breakers, and other critical utility systems, linking this equipment to master SCADA stations over standard Ethernet networks via the DNP3 protocol.

SNAP DNP I/O systems offer reduced software costs, easy system expansion, and operational savings for applications such as:

  • Monitoring, control, and data acquisition from remote electrical and other utility equipment
  • Interoperability between multi-vendor devices
  • Integrating legacy equipment into a DNP system.

Qlarity Foundry R1.53 software is now available as a free download.  (The software is included with the purchase of an Opto 22 OptoTerminal-G70 or OptoTerminal-G75.)  This interface design and integration software is used to program the OptoTerminal-G70 and OptoTerminal-G75 graphics-based operator interface terminals, which are used with Opto 22 Ethernet-based I/O systems.

Qlarity Foundry R1.53 uses a new object library that recognizes ioControl's tag database.  This means all tags, strategy variables, and other elements in a SNAP Ultimate I/O system or SNAP-LCE controller can be easily accessed from a simple drop-down menu, rather than having to use addresses in the brain's memory map.  This results in faster, easier operator interface design and implementation.

The accompanying Quick Start Guide has been updated to describe how to use this new ioControl object library, and additionally enhanced to provide direct, simple instructions for common tasks in Qlarity Foundry.

Download Qlarity Foundry R1.53 here:   Download Now  (22,286 K, for Windows NT/ 2000/ XP)
